Don't Touch the *(*$! Knobs... Whatever you do

So I finally got a chance to settle down & record last night... and one of my New Year's Resolutions was to get jiggy with the mixer (oh yes i *did*).

So I thought I was getting all slick with it... It was 'round about midnight:30 that I got around to listening to the final product... the mixdown.

All I can communicate about that was: wow! Instead of just killing the bass, etc, and so forth... It was cutting out all of the sound. So I sounded like a mixing idiot. I really *need* a new mixer (Santa... where are you?). It's not the fault of the guy that sold it to me... It fell in one of my moves some time ago.

So... note to self... don't touch the f*!#$@!@#$ knobs. They no workey.

So I got up @ 0530. And warmed it up. And re-recorded. Why you ask? Time's getting short. I need time to work on the graphics and i have to review it properly "just in case" before I hand it over.

And this time you'll be happy to know I'm going to do a little peer pre/review. So Funkentanzen is on the way.

And a morning begun with a booty shakedown is a fine morning indeed. w00t!

Hello China!

What kind of engi-nerd would I be without my statistics program attached to my website? I mean what kind of nerd would I be really?

And this month already I have had 17.22 GBs of data transferred to you, China. domains...

I'm surprised @ your choices in CDs, however. I get why you like the Answer Is... but the other one you like I consider taking down on a regular basis...

I get that it's a departure from anything else i've done but I recommend one of the newer ones... seriously

Also... if any of you would like to fly me to your country... My schedule is flexible... I will find a way to accomodate you!

Holey Shiznit

So first off.... Hella Big Thank you... I know some of you listened and commented in the chat window. Thanks! Seriously. And did we say 2 hours? we meant 2 hours and 40 minutes.... PHEW!

As far as the set goes... I think pretty much everything that can go wrong with serato has gone wrong for me... in such a short time frame. mean i only switched to serato @ the end of last year... i'm still in love with the technology... i'm just saying... it's TRICKSY

so i got this really cool colored control vinyl. which is lighter weight than the regular ones... now that i've been on the internet i think it's cuz i didn't get official rane ones...

what that meant is that i had experienced difficulty mixing from the right table until chris rescued me with one of their heavy-weight regular black rane vinyl control disks... it took me a minute to figure out it was a weird issue i hadn't encountered before... this issue made it impossible to wind back with the vinyl once you'd heard that sweet spot in the record you were looking to mix from. something wrong with the grooves. which sucked as both tracks on that table in the first 4 tracks were a little tricksy to mix... not ones where the down beat started up regular-style.

note to self... i'm taking a sh*t ton of the heavy-weight control disks with me to Europe as I'm not leaving anything to chance. i *can* mix from one table and can totally do that if needed but i really don't want to have to. along with spare needles, my cans, and my own sl-1 control box with back up cabling. oh. and i'm also taking the kitchen sink! again... just as a back up!

as far as the content goes.... it blew even me out of the water in the intensity department... i mean playing that way... after the 2nd hour i seriously started to crash.... no dinner and heavy duty techno... woo-HOO!

that's why i took it from that fierce techno track to the fierce funky-twerk.... nobody can do that level for that long... i don't care what you got going. the human sensory system just doesn't function like that!

i just wanted to say thanks again... To Paul & Chris and to you for your support. I really do love you guys very much. It's cheesy & cliche but i really do think i'm the most lucky girl in the world sometimes... i thank my lucky stars every day!

What's in a Name?

What name you ask? My family name. Not the one I received through my mother's marriage but my ancestral ones...

I really wasn't given diddly for information. For example, on my 18th birthday I was informed that my grandmother was north carolina cherokee from a reservation and I was given the name of the reservation. They even gave me a book on Cherokee Indians as a birthday present.

Thanks, mum & dad for the 4-1-1. Could have told me sooner, but hey. Who's gonna nit-pick. I know what year she was born. But only because my memory can be freakishly good sometimes.

I'm in a lull here @ work whilst the requirements get finalized on my next project. And to my credit I have read 100 pages out of a technology book today, and written a prototype (yay, me)

But now my eyeballz feel like they're gonna fall out so I started researching my family name.

I was told we were either Van/Von __________ . Name omitted for privacy concerns. And that part of our family was Swedish and the other was northern Germanic. Well, they got the Northern Germany part right. The last name is a different spelling of a region in northern germany.

But guess what? We're dutch. We definitely were Vans (not von which is a swedish prefix)... And part of our family stayed in Germany on the other side of the border and part of my family migrated to the Netherlands. Makes perfect sense.

No wonder I'm such a water freak. The Dutch were fierce sea farers.

Well I guess it's a good thing I just booked myself @ the world-famous hemp hotel in March. I'll be conducting a little... field research :-) You can infer whatever you like people. Whatever you like. I've got about a perma-smile on my face every time i think about heading back to Amsterdam! Giddy giddy up.

Vinyl to Digital

So last night I recorded my first vinyl track to digital format using Serato. We can add this to the list of things that I wished I started sooner.... Oh what a long list that is!

You'll be happy to know my first EP I'm going to digital with is the Talking Head's Naked. I fell in love with it as a young whipper snapper and I still love it now....

All of this in preparation for Paris. I'm scouring my retro catalogue looking for stuff that beat matches well together. What an undertaking!

I've been wanting to get jiggy with this type of a thing for some time though now and I suppose Paris is an acceptable excuse.

Now that I'm done with this post I'm going to finish going through the rest of the pics from my trip to the American History Museum back in Dec.

Is it February already? Jeezus....
