Why Double CD Release Party? A true life story

Well I'll tell you why. Because when I was first trying to book this party @ Anu it was suggested that I do the CD release party. I think the individual in question was unaware that I do a CD release every 3 - 4 times/month anyway just 'cuz.

I just wanted to book the party and was willing to say whatever to hurry the process along. I'm a busy girl. So I said yes.

Along comes the Big Love Show and it was my favourite ever. Or one of them. The reason why is this student couple heard me on the radio in my first record and decided to come to the studio and hang out with the DJ. That happened about 15 mins in. The campus isn't that big in a car I s'pose.

I had such a good time with them there although I didn't pay enough attention to my mixing (if you ask me). But I was so happy and it was so fun so so what? Hmm? So that ended up being CD Numero Uno.

Mad Love: Live @ the Big Love Show, 11 May 2009

but that was 11 May. Party was 18 July. Berlin changed my life. Profoundly. Changed me. I know what I want now.

So it was time to go into the music and document just how much this year's travels have changed me.

What I love about this CD is every one I met along the way had a hand in it. Someone would invite me somewhere or tell me to go see someone else... It was like an adventure following bread crumbs. Also, I've had the pleasure of witnessing a lot of the artists on here's handywork... I feel so lucky. So here it is:

Eindlich!!! Finally!!!

Sheessus H. Christ. I finally finished cutting this new CD into tracks. The one from May 11th is still yet to be done. This was the longest cutting session I have *ever* had. You who use iPods and tracks are going to notice a huge difference in the transition between songs on the mp3s...

By the way, if you iPod/iTunes folks hadn't realized... After importing you should highlight all tracks in the albums and do a get info. Navigate to the last tab in that dialogue box (i forget the header name). Select gapless album: yes. That way, you can hear the music as it's intended to be heard.

As for me, I figured I would at least get one whole CD with art work done to pass off tomorrow when my friend usually makes his way up for the weekend. That way he can get to work reproducing @ least one of the CDs this weekend. Although his huge monthly is also Sunday so we'll see 'bout that.

So now I'm finishing the cover for the CD and reproducing a few advance copies for people and uploading everything to the internet

I'm so busy right now that I am just *now* getting around to eating despite the fact that my studio is actually the larger half of my kitchen. I sit right next to a refrigerator and I'm still too busy to eat. Seriously.

Sigh.

I'm alive.... well sort of

I have spent the last few days just playing music, working on computers, and going for long walks each day... between 1:15 mins - 2 hours. One long walk a day keeps the doctor away. Sometimes I take my iPod but sometimes, it's all ambient noise... i call it san francisco street bogie

i have been fighting with this computer of mine trying to get a different operating system on this new internal drive i got. now i'm going to put os 10.5.6 for the intel chip on it... wish me luck!

i am recording a new set in the next few days also... so i will not be out & about until Friday night... I've just got too much to do

I'm upgrading my studio computer and my 5 year old lap top... i'll be ghosting hard drives & such

Tschüss!

The Legendary Bar 25 in Berlin, Germany

A lot of Berlin locals don't like Bar 25 because it's a bunch of tourists and guerilla/gorilla-style dancing... take your pic. However, it's one of those things that must be experienced. The you-tube clip below is from 31 May 2009, 5 - 8 AM with Dan Curtin.

These pics are from the Sunday night before, 24 May 2009. On Sunday nights, Bar 25 hits legendary status... See for yo' bad self:

Sunset Parties: One of the things that makes San Francisco spectacular

It was one of the Sunset crew that first inspired me to become a DJ. Sunset parties are put on by the Pacific Sound crew and have been a tradition since 1994. Yesterday was the first party @ treasure Island. It featured the legendary wighnomy brothers. Rumor had it that they completely destroyed it @ DEMF and now I see what all the hub-bub is about. Their music was mind-boggling! Not to mention that one Mr. Jaybird aka Jason Peacock turned in an explosive closing set. I mean wow oh wow oh wow.

But, this party cost thousands of dollars to put on so we should all donate, Ja? Make a donation @ paypal.com using the e-mail address: sunset@pacificsound.net and any donation over $25 gets a free Sunset CD in the mail (WOO HOO!!!)

And lastly, but not leastly, let's hook you up with some pics & a little hot you tube action, no?

First of all, here's me quite clearly having a fabulous time! It's blurry but this is my first picture from my new camera phone!

and here's some other videos of the mayhem

Sieggesäule

So today I proudly got my carcass out for some more touristing. I went to Hamburg Bahnof, a Berlin Contemporary Art Musuem and then wound my way through the Tiergarten to Siegessäule, Berlin's victory column. Siegessäule is situated in the center of the Tiergarten and the center of Berlin.

A long windy spiral staircase takes you to the top (sorry, no elevator kidz.... you're going to have to schlep your shiznit up some stairs). I'm proud to report I did the whole stair case, no break, no problem as I've gotten pretty fit during my time in Europe... Must be all that dancing and loose men! I'm joking.... or am I? That's for me to know and you to die wondering about!

Here's a subset of my photos, all clickable to full-sized pics

Last Saturday night in Berlin

Well, technically my Sat night is still on. It's 10 AM and I'm too excited to sleep. I have my new Musik in my head. Saturday night was fabulous thanks to these two men: Brett Johnson & Dan Curtin. Unfortunately they were on @ the same time @ two different venues. Tough choice. Both are spectacularly talented DJs and super-cool human beings.

You're sooooo not supposed to take photos @ Watergate. Oops. My finger slipped. Five times. Oops.

This is what it looks like @ a sunrise set in Berlin. Sunrise is happening @ 0400 hours in Berlin this time of year as it's 50 + degrees north longitude. By the time summer solstice comes around, it will be light until 10:30 PM!!!! The Watergate is located right within view of Schlesisches Tor which is considered by many to be the one of prettiest Tors in Berlin.

Brett Johnson

And the infamous Watergate which I did not, repeat did not take a picture of... Because that's a no-no. And everyone knows I always, always, always obey the rulz...

Watergate

Watergate

Now we have the infamous Bar 25. A German friend of mine tells me he doesn't like the tourists that come there. I totally get that... You must be prepared to have your feet stomped and the dance floor is like a lesson in Bumper cars... But it has a lot of cool things going for it... and outside tree swing, a photo booth, it's along the water with tons of different seating areas and a second DJ area which looks remarkably like a circus tent... Go figure.

I just downloaded about 40 new tracks so i will be recording a couple of weeks after I return home to San Francisco with someone completely all new... and surprise, surprise, surprise... about 100% all German. I can't help it... the music they are making over here is just too phenomenal for words.

So mark your calendars for 18 July, and put your dancing shoes on... we are going to have a party!

Here's some elephants with an elephant baby:

The Real "Duck Pond"

Some of you guys may remember that wonderful BM Fundraiser party I DJed back in 2006 for the infamous Duck Pond BM Camp in Dolores Park? Fabulous wasn't it? Well yesterday I video-ed the real "Duck Pond" Camp in the Tiergarten in Berlin!

Enjoy:

Woo HOOOOOOOOOOOO

So this AM I went to my favourite local coffee/crepe place where my friends work on my way to my morning walk. My buddy was in the back so I talked to the other people that work there that I've been getting to know & love. These people are fabulous. They've made my stay in Berlin most enjoyable

I heard this other guy talking on the phone and I understood the entired conversation. When I first got here, I didn't even understand the train conductors. It was sad. I was stuck to reading signs. It all sounded like a blur to me. But now, my ears have finally hit the frequency and some people now I either mostly or fully understand

When my friend got done with what he was doing he came out and told me he was listening to me talking German the last few days and he said I've really improved a lot. He said he understands me perfectly now.

WOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO

This has been such a humbling experience for me. I had the worst German teacher ever. Seriously. We did almost no speaking. So I was quite a bit bummed out when I got here and felt completely helpless in conversations. Reading I'm really good but speaking is what you want to do anyway, right?

Well I'm on my way now. Did I say woo hoo?

Yay!
